Man on trial for failed suicide attempt

You see this yeye people? Should this man be in court or in an institution where he can get help? This is the same way Afeez was beaten up in Surulere for attempting suicide. Some people need to be enlightened sha. Below is how Daily Times is reporting it…

A 36-year-old man, Ekanem Aniefiok, was on Tuesday arraigned before the Karu Magistrates’ Court for alleged attempt to commit suicide.

The police Prosecutor, Umar Mohammed, told the court that Aniefiok, of the Federal Housing Authority Estate, Karu, Abuja, committed the offence on September 4 at 10am. He said the offence was contrary to section 75 of the penal code law.

According to him, the police was alerted by one Idika Uzoma, of the same address, that the accused had attempted suicide.

The prosecutor said Uzoma had discovered Aniefiok hanging in his room while his 20-month old daughter was holding a part of the rope that went through the ceiling.

Mohammed said that the accused was unconscious while the baby was crying, and that Uzoma raised alarm which attracted neighbours who rescued him.

The prosecution said that Aniefiok had confessed to committing the offence because he lost his job and that his wife had abandoned him.

Magistrate Celestine Odo said the court had no jurisdiction to try the accused and advised the prosecutor to refer the case to the appropriate court of competent jurisdiction.

Photo of the Day: Bride Gaga

Wow! Beauty they say is always in the eyes of the beholder. However, this is what you get when you use the same designer as Lady Gaga.

For her wedding day, Lady Mary Charteris, the 24-year-old aristocratic model chose a dress designed by Pam Hogg – who just so happens to have dressed Lady Gaga.

I also noticed from this breath taking picture that Bridegrooms will soon start holding the bouquet too***laffs***

Head-turning stuff.

Well friends, it’s left for you to decide if you wanna give the designer of this “out of the world” wedding dress a thumbs up or shout out loud “what in the world were you thinking! ” Whatever the case, it’s a free world out there and people like to express it in different ways.

Holla! Don’t forget to check out the Maid of Honor, she’s simply one of a kind****laugh out loud****

Top 10 lines in Michelle Obama’s Democratic Convention speech

“And I didn’t think it was possible, but today, I love my husband even more than I did four years ago — even more than I did 23 years ago, when we first met.”

First Lady Michelle Obama on Tuesday delivered a powerful, highly personal speech to an adoring crowd at the Democratic National Convention. Here’s POLITICO’s round-up of her 10 most memorable lines:

1. “Well, today, after so many struggles and triumphs and moments that have tested my husband in ways I never could have imagined, I have seen firsthand that being president doesn’t change who you are — no, it reveals who you are.”

2. “For Barack, success isn’t about how much money you make, it’s about the difference you make in people’s lives.”

3. “You see, at the end of the day, my most important title is still ‘mom-in-chief.’”

4. “We were so young, so in love, and so in debt.”

5. “Barack knows the American dream because he’s lived it, and he wants everyone in this country, everyone to have that same opportunity, no matter who we are, or where we’re from, or what we look like, or who we love.”

6. “And he believes that when you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed.”

7. “If farmers and blacksmiths could win independence from an empire, if immigrants could leave behind everything they knew for a better life on our shores, if women could be dragged to jail for seeking the vote, if a generation could defeat a depression, and define greatness for all time, if a young preacher could lift us to the mountaintop with his righteous dream and if proud Americans can be who they are and boldly stand at the altar with who they love, then surely, surely we can give everyone in this country a fair chance at that great American Dream.”

8. “And I didn’t think it was possible, but today, I love my husband even more than I did four years ago — even more than I did 23 years ago, when we first met.”

9. “I love that for Barack, there is no such thing as ‘us’ and ‘them’ — he doesn’t care whether you’re a Democrat, a Republican, or none of the above. He knows that we all love our country, and he is always ready to listen to good ideas. He’s always looking for the very best in everyone he meets.”

10. “You see, even though back then Barack was a senator and a presidential candidate, to me, he was still the guy who’d picked me up for our dates in a car that was so rusted out, I could actually see the pavement going by through a hole in the passenger side door. He was the guy whose proudest possession was a coffee table he’d found in a dumpster, and whose only pair of decent shoes was half a size too small.”

So you see, beside every successful man, there’s a woman with a story who loves him so dearly.

‘I didn’t kill my wife’ – Rich Oganiru tells his own side of the story

In a telephone conversation with Charles Nwagbara of High Society Magazine, the actor accused of poisoning his wife and selling off her property said he’s 100% innocent and that the false stories were planted to defame his character. He told the magazine his own side of the story. See it below:

According to him, his late wife took ill over five months ago and was battling fibroid. He explained that they opted for some kind of treatment supervised by German doctors which will prevent normal surgery. But to his dismay, the fibroid kept growing back and causing his wife more pain. Later, they  decided to go spiritual and moved from Abuja to Prophet TB Joshua’s synagogue in Ikotun where the prophet gave them emergency appointment based on his personal recognition. His wife he said, then suggested they move to her brother’s apartment at the Air force Barracks in shasha. While there, she rejected all the provisions that the actor bought and insisted on having pap prepared by her sister at her brother, Group captain David Aluko’s home. After the meal, he said her condition became worse and they decide to move her to Synagogue since the appointment was a few hours from then. Oganiru said his wife refused and told him to take her to the hospital, this he did with the aid of her brother Group captain David. But at the military hospital gate, the woman died. That according to him was when the problem started as the brother became hostile despite his condition which resulted  in his being medicated as the shock of the death of his beloved wife raised his blood pressure. Later when he came to, he discovered that his Air-force  brother in-law had deposited his wife’s body at the morgue and ordered him, Oganiru to go tell their parents that his sister was dead. This the actor said he will do, but demanded the death certificate so as to present to his in-laws to clear himself since the Air-force officer had started insinuating all sorts.

Group Captain David he said ordered him out of the barracks and he left to his hotel room where he discovered his wife’s stuff had been removed and his belongings searched and scattered.
According to Oganiru:

“They even seized the keys to my jeep and my international passport. I had to beg for my things to be returned. When I got the keys and my passport back and David insisted that I cannot have the morgue tag for my wife, I left for our home in Abuja. On arriving there, they had locked me out and carted away eveything that belonged to my wife and even our wedding pictures. Eventually I was allowed inside.

Three days later some policemen from force headquarters came to arrest me based on a petition written about me that I killed my wife. I was kept in cell with Boko Haram members and I was the one washing for them. The police didn’t care about my medication. When they saw my health was getting bad, they released me. I was asked to report two days later to face my accusers. I took some journalist to the house to see how they vandalized my things. That same evening, a group of policemen came in commando style, broke down my window and said I was under arrest. That was how they took me to Asokoro police station after beating me mercilessly and I was bleeding from ear and nose, A few day later, a professor friend came and told them that they should release me or charge me. He insisted that they should do the autopsy and charge me based on that, When nothing was found after the autopsy was conducted, they let me go.

Meanwhile these heartless people have gone ahead to bury my wife without my consent. Now the next thing is that they are on the internet alleging that I poisoned my rich wife for her property. Let me tell you, my wife was a hardworking woman but about being rich, i don’t know, otherwise why did we scrape to the bone to find money for her treatment? We live in a rented apartment, so i don’t know the property I killed her for that I wanted to inherit. See, the callous people said I also killed my two former wives. My ex wife is alive, healthy and bubbling with my two children. But I know there is God and I must fight this to a logical conclusion. God is with me and my accusers will soon be put to shame. Thank you for calling me to find out the truth” .

The dangers of Facebook

The most popular social networking site among teenagers is Facebook, which is used by 7% of teens who use social networks. Facebook, once a closed system limited to school and college communities, has recently become more open. Facebook puts a greater emphasis on actually knowing the people that you connect with. Other social networks used by teenagers include 2go, Yahoo and Baboo.

Positives and Negatives

Apart from the social benefits, social networking sites can be used to document school research, promote artistic talents and experiment with other forms of content creation. They provide a way to interact with others who share the same interests and to get constructive feedback on ongoing projects.

Along with these benefits come some risks. Most social networking sites are open to all, especially MySpace, which means that your teen could be exposed to harassment, bullying or sexual advances.

Cyber-bullying and harassment are most often perpetrated by other teens and tend to happen most to older girls and to teens of either gender who have a strong online presence. It may take several forms: publicizing private instant messages, text messages or e-mails, posting threatening messages, posting photos that will cause embarrassment and spreading rumors.

It’s rare for harassment to spill over into real-world conflicts, but it can still be a cause of emotional distress for teens.

A greater danger is that teens may become targets of pedophiles. The anonymity of some social networking sites makes it easy for unscrupulous people to target young teens and engage them in harmful conversations. It’s easy for predators to pose as teens and lure children into harmful real-world contact as well. Most social networking sites have privacy controls in place, but teens seldom use them. Active monitoring of profiles and behaviors catches some predators, but not all of them.

Another risk is identity theft, which can occur when teens share too much information about their name, date of birth and location.

Social networking safety

It’s up to parents to make sure their kids are safe when they use social networking. Many of the same rules that apply to online chat apply to these sites:

*Use an alias.

*Don’t give out personal information to people you don’t know. A last name and a town are enough for a predator to locate your child.

*Don’t assume that people are who they claim to be.

*Immediately end any communication that makes you uncomfortable and report it to a parent.

*For younger teens, you should investigate any sites they’d like to use. Find out what privacy protections are in place and insist that your teen uses them. For children under 16, that often means a private profile that can only be seen by approved friends.

*Older teens may want a public profile to promote a band or other creative work. In this case, have your child create a second, public profile for the project while still restricting the personal profile to family and close friends. It’s best to set up these profiles with a free e-mail from Yahoo or Google using an alias that can’t be traced back to find personal information.

*Encourage your kids to tell you if they’re victims of cyber bullying or harassment. Many teens will try to deal with this on their own, which can have disastrous consequences. If your child knows who’s behind the harassment, involve the other child’s parents or school officials. If it’s anonymous, remind your child that it’s  not personal; some people just think it’s fun to say mean things about others.

Why I posed nude – Charlyboy

Charlyboy, AKA Areafada has made headlines recently on different newspapers for posing nude in a picture. In this interview, the enigmatic social crusader and the eccentric one has finally disclosed why he posed nude in the picture that went viral on the internet.  The Excerpt.
Quotes: Now I know that at 61, my body still attracts
.Question: One wonders where you have been this period that the media has gone wild about you.

I have been hibernating in my room, sipping fruit punch on the rocks, and having a damn good laugh at some peoples timid, conservative and myopic mindset, and I will always thank God that am different and special, and not bugged down by such pedestrian intelligence.

Question: We are wondering why you continue to keep quiet over series of stories that are being circulated about you.

You know I will always remain cool with a smile when everybody is loosing sleep over my actions or inactions. No matter what, anything I do attracts attention, and even at that, not doing anything at all attracts attention. Everyone is entitled to his or her perception of the brand. what they feel or believe the brand represents doesn’t really matter. We all see an issue from where ever we stand, so if you are an artiste, you will for instance see the so-called nude picture from a creative standpoint. If you are a deeper life kind of person, you will start to moralize and may even paint me the devil. For me, it all comes with the territory; I’m an entertainer and an artiste, so if people start to swallow panadol on my behalf, should that be my concern? I know damn too well who and what I am and that is why am severely myself, because I believe in me, as a result, I don’t give a damn what you think that I am, because I already know who I am, and am confident in that knowledge. So why should I have anxiety over my playfulness and youthfulness. I no send anybody massage oooo.

Question: You filed a suit against National Mirror; at what point is the case now?

My case is still in court with the National Mirror, I know some dumb asses would feel like, Oh, he just wanted to make noise. He is not serious about the matter, but I guess time will tell who the real fools are. I know some people in this country feel like because they have money, they can buy anything even justice they don’t even deserve. Lagos high court went on vacation over the past months so as soon as they come back in the next few weeks, the matter will be called up. And let me warn, if ‘mago mago’ gets into my matter, I will show Nigerians another side that they have never seen before. Don’t forget that I on my own have faced corporate bodies in this country and have won, so Jimo Ibrahim and National Mirror are small fries in my book. I have taken on bigger platforms. Una go hearam soon, stay tuned.

Question: Even while battling with National Mirror on the controversial issue of gay and lluminati, your nude picture hit the internet again. How did this happen?

So? Don’t I look good for my age? How does one get to look that good if you don’t take care of yourself? Did you see craw craw on my body? If you see nudity, what I see is discipline. I challenge you to find in this Nigeria, 61 year old men who look like me and are in the best mental, physical and spiritual shape.

You think it is moi moi? Do you know how hard I work to keep that body like that? How else, if it is not discipline? I don’t drink, I no longer smoke cigarettes, I don’t womanize, I workout every day and I watch what I eat. I do so many things that I know a lot of people don’t have the will power to do. On my blackberry profile, I post different pictures on it, sometimes it’s all about my beautiful children, sometimes it’s about my parents, most of the time it is my beautiful wife, sometimes it’s about the people I inspire, the youths. Of cause, if I want to be mischievous, I post me sleeping in my casket, or showing off my beautiful body. So why are they not spreading the pictures of my fine wife and children? Why are they not spreading the pictures of my struggles or all the motivational things that I do, can’t you see where their minds are? In the gutter of cause…

Question: What were you trying to achieve by displaying such picture on your Blackberry profile?

I’m in the comfort of my house doing my thing, and you are asking me what I’m trying to achieve. People in my area see me every morning jogging as if I am training for Olympics, and I should not celebrate with myself the result of all the hard work I have been doing over the years? What is your damn business whatever picture I put up on my own phone? If you are on my contact and you see that kind of picture, why don’t you ignore it?

But no, they will be the first to put it on their own profile and be circulating it all over the world; I really don’t mind sha ooooo, because I know I look too good for my age. God worked overtime on my body and made me

ever special. I thank him every day for that, so dey there dey ask me what am trying to achieve. All of una with una boring and frustrated life, no be una subject of discussion for the past one month? You no see how my matter they sweet for them mouth, abegi…abegi. And who said they were nude pictures anyway? Did you see my blocos there?

At best you can say that the pictures were suggestive; everyone knows am a big tease.

Question: Obviously, this is not the first time you are posing suggestive in a picture. Can you tell us why you keep doing this?

Why not? I’m happy with my body and I’m telling you that I work very hard to keep it in shape. I have it, so I’m flaunting it; do you mind?

Question: We understand that most of your fans are mainly young people. Don’t you think that appearing like that in a picture could easily be misinterpreted by them?

My life story has inspired many young people, they understand my playfulness and my youthfulness, because there has been so many positives things I have done and still doing in the past 35yrs of the brand. They remember my contribution to the entertainment scene in Nigeria, how I brought respect and big money into the scene. Listen, no need to blow my trumpet, you know my contributions and how I have championed many other peoples causes. So they know and they understand and I’m happy about that. If you can’t get it, na your business be that.

1.      How positive or negative do these several rumors affect your business?

My own is that I’m making Bank, and business is good. Do not forget that I am a communicator. Most of the things you consider negatives may be positives to me, and even when you force the negatives too much on my face, I will convert them to positives. I am on top of my game sha.

Question: How do your children feel, seeing their father appearing waggish? They are so tickled with my swag. They like the Charlyboy character but they love Mr Charles Oputa; that is who they know.

Question: What would you consider the worst story ever about you?

The one they said that I ‘said” when I did not say. That is why we are in court. Enough of this jungle journalism. It is getting so obnoxious.
